The research reveals that the Book of Master Guigu conceives a comprehensive “art of persuasion” by promoting an unassuaging efficacy within an early Daoist cosmological framework. My review of Hui Wu's more recent translation is higher than this one primarily due to how the text is organized. Coyle did a great job, but followed the common and frustrating practice of breaking up the text and disordering it. He was also not always very clear about when it was Guiguzi or another text speaking. While Coyle focuses on more on breaking the text down into over-reaching concepts in Chinese society, at times making the text take a back-seat to his commentary or thesis. Hui Wu's by contrast, makes the text the center-point. For that reason, I'd say buy both translations for their respective strengths, but if you really want to understand the text itself, Hui Wu's translation is the better choice.

I would give this book a 5 star rating if the printed type was darker. There are some paragraphs, words and sentences that are very hard to discern. With a good magnifying glass and context clues you can work through it. Some of the Chinese names and terms might not be understood because of the faint print. I will keep this book and I am very thankful to have it. I am actively using it in my research. Thank you .
